Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, previously named as Suping Campus, was established with the joint investment of the Nepali Army (then Royal Nepalese Army) and the Tribhuvan University (TU) at Bhimphedi of Makawanpur district on the 14th Poush 2035. The Campus has been conducting classes in the intermediate level in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences since its establishment and intermediate level classes in the Faculty of Science from 2038 BS. The Mahavidyalaya was shifted into its present location surrounded by beautiful landscape and greenery at Sallaghari, Bhaktapur in 2043 BS and the funding has been carried on by Nepal Army Welfare Fund.. Since then, both the school (IV-X) and college level classes have been conducted together. In view of the growing demand of capable human resources in the corporate sector, BSAM started running 10+2 level classes in Management under the Higher Secondary Education Board.
The Mahavidyalaya, having completed its 20 years of imparting quality education, holds an excellent record in the annual examinations of Tribhuvan University (Proficiency Certificate Level). BSAM often has cent percent results in Proficiency Certificate Level and in XI and XII, we have many records of enlisting our students amongst the board toppers. Our School Leaving Certificate results have always been the matter of glory for us as we have produced many board toppers including the Board First.
Providing Boarding facilities within its premises, the campus considers hostel life as an extension of formal education with an exposure to practical community living, wide range of co-curricular activities and guided tutorial programs. Above all, the Principal, Vice Principal and majority of the teachers reside within the campus premises to pay full attention to the boarders. The Liaison Officer and other army personnel, at the same time, are committed to provide logistic support and maintenance of the Mahavidyalaya Some teachers and girl students (day-scholars) commute daily in the Mahavidyalayas' reliable fleet of 10 buses. We believe that on the successful completion of their studies, students will have gained valuable skills. In addition, the pride and confidence that come with success at BSAM with many beneficial and rewarding experiences will surely open new doors for students.

COMBAT ARMS

8:09 PM at 8:09 PM

The Nepal Army’s main fighting force comes from Combat Divisions. Their areas of responsibility were determined according to the development regions. All together five divisions are located in the regional headquarters of every development region. This integrated force consists of various specialist units: Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Combat Engineers, Air Defense, Signals and Medical components.

Under the command of each Division, there is an integrated Brigade augmented with combat support and combat service support Units.

A Major General commands the Combat Division and a Brigadier General commands the Combat Brigade. The Brigade comprises of Infantry Battalions and Independent Infantry Companies. Depending upon the area of responsibility, Combat Brigade may have two to three Infantry Battalions and up to six or more Independent Infantry Companies. Each brigade is augmented with a Signals Company, an Engineer Company, a Light Artillery Battery, an Air Defense Battery, a Field Ambulance Company, Transport elements, Ordnance elements and Repair workshop elements.

There is also a Special Operations Brigade that includes a Special Forces Regiment Reconnaissance Battalion, a Parachute Battalion, and a Ranger Battalion. These Special Forces are specialists in the army. They strike mostly under the cover of darkness and employ various means to get to their target undetected. They are thus adept at infiltrating enemy territory using airborne raids, helicopter assaults and usually operate at small team to carry out raids on important targets. Reconnaissance (or recce) operations are something the Special Forces can do much well than the average soldiers. Such operations demand high combat fitness, stamina, drive and mental agility. Special Forces can also sabotage enemy installations and are well trained in various skills like demolition, signals, and medical aid and cross-trained in various skills and arms used so that they can take over each other's functions if necessary.

An Infantry Battalion, commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel comprises of Rifle Companies, a Support Company and a Logistics Company. Majors are Company commanders, Captains are Company Second in Command (2ICs) and Lieutenants are Platoons commanders. Junior Commissioned Officers (JCO) is the Second in Command of the Platoons. A Platoon consists of three Sections and Sergeant (Non Commissioned Officer) is the section commander.

NEPAL ARMY IN DISASTER RELIEF

7:58 PM at 7:58 PM

The official Nepalese definition of a Disaster is "a major incident which causes a serious disruption to life, arising with little or no warning, causing or threatening death or serious injury to, or rendering homeless, such numbers of persons in excess of those which can be dealt with by public services operating under normal procedures, and which calls for the special mobilization and organization of those services". Government of Nepal has judiciously also added 'environmental degradation' as a disaster in the making.

The Government of Nepal views the Nepal Army as an inseparable agency in Disaster Relief Operations. Examples of the particular suitability and capability of the armed forces to respond effectively to such incidents abound in Nepalese history. Furthermore, Nepal's status as a developing country does not justify the high costs of maintaining a separate disaster relief organization. Consequently, the Nepal Army plays a major role in providing emergency assistance to needy people all over the country - a role that has become even more important in the present context.

The Nepal Army has been instrumental in opening up remote areas through rugged mountainous terrain with a large number of road and bridging projects.
